Is there an age limit?
Yes, you must be at least 18 years of age on the day of your skydive, there are no exceptions on this rule. A valid photo ID (ie. drivers license or state ID) is required to jump.

Is there a weight limit?
Yes, you must weigh less than 225 lbs, exceptions made on a case-by-case basis with the instructor having the final decision. Please call ahead if you have any questions about this.

Can I jump by myself the first time?
Yes, at Tri-State Skydivers we offer static-line jumps. You will go through a 4-6 hour first jump course and make your jump the same day. We will train you on airplane and parachute emergencies, how to fly your canopy, how to do a PLF (parachute landing fall, in case you can not stand up your landing), everything you will need to know to make a safe jump. And we will also equip you with a radio, in case you need help.

What will the skydive feel like?
The sensation of freefall is more like flying than falling. It is both exciting and at the same time liberating. There is no other feeling like it in the world! The canopy flight is quiet and peaceful. It is common to be able to have a conversation, under the canopy, with your instructor.

Will the skydive feel like a rollercoaster?
No. You will have a sensation of flying not just falling. When you leave the airplane your body will have an airspeed of about 80 mph, then in a mater of a few seconds you will be going about 120 mph (terminal velocity). In a rollercoaster you start off at 0 mph, then end up going about 70 mph. That is what gives you the stomach in your throat feeling. You will not have that same feeling in skydiving.

What altitude will I jump from?
Tandem skydives go to about 11,000 ft. Static-line jumps are from 3,500 ft.

I am coming out with a group, can we jump at the same time?
Yes and no. At TSS, our airplanes have only 4 seats for passengers per airplane. For a static-line jump one seat is for the jumpmaster, the other 3 can be for student. So 3 of you can make your jump together. On a tandem jump 2 seats are for the tandem instructor and you. A 3rd seat is for the videographer, if you are getting video. You can have a friend ride in the airplane with you, for a cost of $20 to cover the cost of the extra fuel used, in seat #4. If 2 of you are not getting video, then all 4 seats can be for both tandems and instructors.

Can I bring my own camera with me on the jump?
No, you and your instructor are much too busy with your skydive to look after your camera. It very easily may get lost or broken and we cannot risk dropping it in freefall or under canopy. But we do offer the skills of highly experienced freefall videographers to fall along with you to take pictures and videos.

Can I get a video or stills of my jump?
Yes, the cost of the video is $60 for a VHS or $75 for a DVD. All videos are edited to music and include a pre and post jump interview. Stills are $25 for a roll of 24 (35 mm), you get the pictures developed. Or $20 for a 8x10 or $15 for a 5x7 (digital camera).

Can we get one video for our whole group?
No, the time/distance gap between jumper exits prevents the videographer from being able to film more than one tandem at a time.

Can I bring my friends and family to watch?
Definitely Yes! We encourage you to share the experience with you entire family and friends. If you bring kids, we just ask you to keep a good eye on them. It can get busy around the airport, airplanes landing and taking off all day long.

Are gift certificates available?
Yes, gift certificates are available for any amount.

What type of payment do you accept?
Visa, MasterCard, and of course CASH.

Do you require reservations or deposits?
Reservations or deposits are not required but they are encouraged. It is the only way to make sure you can jump on the day you want to jump on. We would like at least a week to schedule your skydive.

Do you offer discounts and group rates?
Yes, we offer discounts to active duty military ($15 off), college students with college ID ($10 off), and group discounts of 5 or more ($20 off each).

More FAQ Answers

Is skydiving safe?

Statistically, skydiving is one of the safest recreational sports you can engage in. The most dangerous part of skydiving is driving to the airport. We will provide you with modern, state of the art equipment that will help ensure that you have a safe, fun skydive.

Do I have to be physically fit to learn to skydive?

Skydiving is not a physically demanding sport, however you must be in good health and there is a weight limit of 225 pounds. Static Line and Tandem students must have enough upper body strength to pull down on the steering toggles to full arm extension to flare the parachute while landing. For most people this is not a problem. If you are concerned about health questions, we strongly advise you to consult a physician before engaging in skydiving activities.

How long does it take to learn to skydive?

You can learn in just one day. Make plans to spend the entire day if you are attending one of our instructional courses. If you are making a tandem skydive you will usually jump (weather permitting) within one hour of your appointed time, but this may vary depending on the number of available Tandem Masters. It will take a minimum of 25 jumps to earn your A license.

If I go through the Static Line Course, will I be able to make more than one jump per day?

It depends on the number of people that are in the class. Usually you will be able to make a second jump the same day you train. We do not recommend making more than three jumps in one day simply because of the "sensory overload" factor.

Will I be able to jump with my glasses or contacts?

Yes, we have special goggles for you to wear over your glasses or contact lenses.

What do I wear for my skydive?

Dress comfortably for whatever weather we are experiencing the day of your jump. Tandems will wear a jumpsuit over their clothing. Jumpsuits are optional for static line students. Lace-up type shoes are required for any jump that you do. Tennis shoes are OK. No sandals, open-toed or slip-on shoes.

When are the classes held?

Please call for our next available class time. We offer static-line progression classes on most Saturdays and Sundays and by appointment.

What if I schedule a tandem jump and the weather is bad?

If the weather is questionable, you can call the DZ prior to leaving your home. We are not meteorologists so we can only give you our best "guess" based on information provided to us by flight service. Don't "assume" that the weather is bad at the drop zone just because it may be raining at your house. If you do get weathered out, we will reschedule at your convenience.

On a tandem skydive, how long is the freefall?

All our tandem jumps are made from an altitude of 11,000 feet. From 11,000 feet, your freefall lasts approximately 45 seconds. The parachute ride will last between
5-7 minutes, depending on the number of turns you do while in the air.
